That depends on if, and what photosynthetic invertsvyou want. 40 watts is enough for FO in a 55. The rule of thumb is 3-5 watts for photosynthetic organisms, but you ALSO need proper water flow provided by pumps and/or power heads for invertebrates. ASn open canopy helps some, ie. no glass.
