If your corals (if you have corals) are not doing well, such as not fully opening or extending, or if your fish are getting blown around to much, you have to much current. :D

If the flow is distributed well (lots of discharge points, LR stacked so that it breaks up the flow, etc), a 10g could probably handle 400-500 gph fairly easily.

You really think it could handle that much in a ten gallon? Thats 40-50x turnover.

My experience with smaller tanks is that a higher turnover rate is required to see the same results as in a larger tank with moderate flow. For example 40-50x's turnover in say a 10 gallon reef would be equivalent to 15-20x's turnover in a 55g.
