All HEAT and UV issues aside, would 150 watts of HQI given proper distance be harmful in anyway over the 12 Gallon Nano Cube?

Only if you are gonna have clams and SPS. I think it would be too much for softies, they may bleach out.

I have a 150 HQI over my 10. There are some softies in there. It took a month or so for them to adjust, they're fine now.

corals bleach for a lot of reasons, but one of the theories is that when the coral has a lot of light they stop producing zooxanthelae (which is brown) and become a more white color. On the subject of too much light, I have a 250 watt hqi over a 30gal cube and it is just fine. I don't even have a chiller. Just a ten dollar fan from Wal-Mart. The tank has just finished cycling, so there aren't any corals in it right now, so I couldn't tell you about bleaching, but I will say I had a heck of a bought with algae.
