175w mh for 29 gal 2 inches 4rm water overkill?

im gonna do a diy metal halide lighting for my 29 gallon.. the ballast cost about 40 dollars and the bulb will cost about 20-25.. you guys think this would be alot of heat and to bright for a 29 gall?

It won't be a problem as long as you use a small fan to blow across the water's surface. It will create heat other wise.

cool.. i could just use a computer power supply and 4-5 case fans

I have 175MH and 130w of PC over my 29. It is not too bright nor does it get too hot. I have 2 small fans that keep the temp perfect.

sorry, didnt see the 2inches above water part. you will need to get the MH a little higher off the water than that. Do you have a canopy?
