I have 2 MP10s in my column style tank that are both on the back glass and it works out fine, but the shape of my tank yields considerations that a standard shaped tank would not.
I would look at the Vortech manual for initial placement, I think it says optimally to have the master on the back and the slave on one side.
BTLD could tell you better, she is the Vortech guru (I consulted with her when deciding where to put my second MP10).

I would have a total of two mp10s. What does a column tank look like? Pics? I guess I'm wondering what the real downsides would be having it on the back wall of a cube style tank?

I lust for a 90 cube. I will put MPs on the back, I really like the look; not crazy about the look of the dry side hanging off the tank's sides.
Here is the way my tank looks now (except I fragged that monti back about 70%)

Great pics. I think I'm going to put them on the back when I get the second one. I really don't like the one hanging on the side either. If they are functional on the back then that's where they will stay.

i just bought the second mp10.. Im looking to put them both on the back wall but Im not sure how im going to align them perfectly since i have black background. also, Im wondering how far apart they should be? I have a cube, 18" wide... Slice how did you align them?

Mine was simple. I have an HOB skimmer/fuge, so my placement was as high as the HOB allowed and as close to the side glass as possible to allow a magfloat to get past. Look at my FTS and see how that worked out.
I can only attest how placement worked out in my particular tank. BTLD would probably be the best person to give general advice.

You guys need to PM me if I don't jump in.
Can you post a picture of your tank? And where you're thinking of putting them?

heres the pic. So this is i was thinking. The green monti cap on the right side is actually laying down and not sticking up. The monti cap ( I think) on the left side will have to move somewhere else. The corals that are on the left side I am a little worried about getting blasted too much. I am willing to rework the entire aquascape in order to get the two mp10 on the back wall. I still want to know how those that have them on the back wall align the dry and and wet side pefectly if they have a back "wallpaper"??? I had a hard enough time aligning the one i have and seeing if they where at least close...

Ah, I misunderstood what you were asking. When you said "align" you meant "align", not what I thought you were saying.
You have your dry side hanging by the cord that runs through the supplied cord mounting tab, correct?
I have to take my wet sides out for a vinegar bath (coraline) and general cleaning every 4-5 weeks. Re-aligning the halves takes only a moment if done according to the manual.
The wet side will generally self-align when I get it close enough to the dry side's sweet spot. You can feel it when it grabs (magnetically) on. Then again, my tank's glass is thin tempered, only about 3/16" thick.
