I think Im going to attempt to make a coil denitrator. It seems simple enough but there are just two aspects I don't understand.
Everywhere I have looked, when making a denitrator DIY directions say to use an acrylic cylinder for the body. Dose it have to be a clear body? Does the benifical bactira need light to grow and multiply? PVC is much easier to find at a local hardware stores so it seems like the perfect material unless it needs to be clear.
My second question is:
Is there a good and easy way to aerate the water coming out of the coil denitrator?
this is a quote directly from the DIY Im following:
"IT IS RECOMMENDED TO AERATE THE EFFLUENT (OUTPUT) WATER FROM THIS COIL DENITRATOR BEFORE REINTRODUCING THE WATER BACK TO THE AQUARIUM. AERATION OF THE WATER HELPS TO ELIMINATE HYDROGEN SULFIDE AND ALSO KILLS OFF ANY STRAY BACTERIA."
the DIY does not explain how to do this.
I have a Nice hang on back Protein skimmer. If I place a tube from the output of the denitrator to the overflow of the protein skimmer with that aerate the output water? If not what could I do?
Thanks
