2 weeks w/ new ls- diatoms still here!

What is the right amount of time to give a 30 gallon w/ new ls before I should worry about the amount of diatoms appearing? It's been about 2 weeks, and the brown nasty is still all over the sand. Is this the way it should be going, or should I start looking to remedy this?

Hi there,
Diatoms were with me for months!
Check these things:
Phosphates
Silicates
Amount of food you are feeding
Garlic (this feeds diatoms)
What type of water are you using? When i converted to RO/DI they all went. Having said that diatoms are a natural occurance in the cycle.
