Guys,
I put an air pump in my tank today. With an Airstone at the end... Is this overkill on Oxegen for this tank?? It's a Whisper for up to 40 Gallon... Tons of bubbles are comming up...
thx in advance,
steve

I'm pretty new to the whole saltwater thing, but from what I've heard and read you don't want to run an air stone in a saltwater setup. Something about having a negative effect with the oxygen ratio. Try to do a search to read up on it.

the excess bubbles in the tank can cause serious problems for your fish's gills. In addition the bubbles will cause for ALOT more salt creep.

I have crimped the line, so only a few bubles are going to the top... I this a for sure now way and take out, or I can have limited bubles to add little air into the water??

You dont particullarly want to put that in your tank. Instead Aim your water inlet up and out of the water so the stream breaks the surface therfore relieving pressure and incorporating oxygen into the water flow. The salt creep could become a problem as well as air bubbles like foresaid. Plus, if you cover it with LR or corals, it will become a pain to change. You can also get SW plants which will produce oxygen as all plants do. As well they will extract unwanted nutrients in your tank. But they can become overly prolific without pruning. They also add a great place for pods and such to eat adn breed. Leave airstones in FW.
