24 gal Nano on the way

I did it., I went online and ordered a 24g nano.....
I've been bugging my husband for 4 yrs for a SWT and Im finally going to get it....I would have liked to get a 72g bowfront tank, but I think I will enjoy the practice with the 24g.
I've been going back and forth between the 12g and the 24g, and in the end decided that the 12 would be too small.
I didn't order the live rock or sand yet...think I will pick that stuff up locally, the shipping on it is way over the top!
This site is awsome, and you all are a huge help.
I bought two books, 1. clownfishes, and 2. The New Marine Aquarium
So I will disect those two books before I even set things up. Im not one to JUMP in head first to anything, I only ordered the tank now, because I dont want him to have a chance to change his mind. LOL and if given the chance he might try to talk me out of it. This way, it's here, it's paid for and there's no turning me back....LOL
Thanks to all of you for your stories and helpful advise. I look forward to reading more and LOVE looking at your pictures!

Welcome to the boards! I have a 24 Nano, what lights are you going with? I would bite the bullet and go with 150W MHs.
Good Luck and keep a photo diary!

At this point I dont know for sure if I will change the lights out. Im not sure im going to get into the corals/softies or not.
although Im leaning toward getting an MJ 1200 to add to the water movement.
I think I will need a heater also.
I still need to get the LS/LR and the salt to get started.
Has anyone started a tank without the LR? can it be added later...? also can you get the LS and rock base and start it off that way? will the Rock base eventually become "live" because its in the tank with LS?
I think my husband thinks im out of my mind to want to accually pay "money" for "rocks".... LOL especially 24+ lbs of it... LOL
I checked the site where I ordered my nano and I'm pretty sure it should be here on Friday. (not that Im anywhere near ready to set it up yet) :(
Oh well...if I didn't have patients before, I sure will have it soon.
* good luck with your new nano, I can imagine that a large tank must cost a pretty penny to run....let alone keep stocked...etc. Hope to see pics soon! Is it there yet?

You can cycle without the live rock, but if your lr isn't cured when you purchase it you will have to cure it before adding it to your tank (if you have fishies) so that you don't go through another cycle. To make things much easier...I would cycle with the lr, ls and throw a frozen shrimp in there to kick start it. Base rock will eventually become live rock, yes. Shop around popular auction sites....you can get lr and ls for a decent price.
I never got to stock my 125
I ran out of $$ but I sure have a nice start for my nano ... it will be pretty well stocked (if I ever get it!) LMAO
As for my nano... read my HORRIBLE LUCK https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/279208/aint-this-my-luck

i cycled without lr
some people purchase the lr from their store and put them in containers with sw just to prevent a lot of die off, maybe that might be something youd be interested in?

The 24g nano cube was delivered today. I unpacked it....funny, it didn't look that big on the computer. LOL
I was going to put it in my kitchen as I have a lot of counter space in there and Im ALWAYS in the kitchen.
Well I cant put it there, its too big.

Now I dont know where I want to put it.
I could put it in the parlor, but im never in there., my husband is, but im not...im not into tv that much.
If I put it in computer/video game room, I'll see it but my husband never will cause he is never in here....he's not into the computer/video games "ever" , just not his bag.
I dont know....I think i'd rather see it in here (computer room) if I cant have it in the kitchen. These are the rooms I spend all of my time in.
