Both type of tanks and their stock lighting will be able to support soft corals and LPS. you would only need to upgrade the lights to Metal Halides or T5 if you are planning to add SPS such as montipora, acropora, millepora, etc...
you are fine with the lights if you wanna have zoas, shrooms, leathers, softies

I would upgrade, I had the stock lights on my aquapod and its pretty limiting on what you can support. It all tends to look the same. Get a MH fixture, if thats an option, and then you can keep anything you want.
