I am just starting my first journey into SW and was looking for some input. The tank I am planning on purchasing has the following specs...
24 Gallon, 150W HQI Metal Halide System - Includes: Surface skimming filtration system, 1-14000°K HQI Metal Halide light, 6 blue and 6 white LED lights, cooling fan, mechanical sponge filter, 290 gph submersible pump with flat nozzle, and complete instructions.
I was wondering what other items I should be purchasing, if any, to sustain a reef tank. My LFS told me at the most I would be needing a heater. Should I go with the halide and then not worry about upgrading later or should I go with the cheaper fluorescent model?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. I just found these boards today and they have been such a gift.
Thanks!

I own a 24g Aquapod, and a 34g Solana. It has been my experience that you will eventually want to upgrade to better equipment. So if you can afford it, go for the hqi sunpod setup.
I purchased a used aquapod that someone sent to nanotuners and had the lights upgraded. I also like the design of the aquapod (closed lid). The closed lid cuts down on the evaporation.
I guess it just comes down to what you like, and what you are planning on stocking. My aquapod is just for my anenome and 2 clown fish.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your purchase and enjoy the obsession, I mean hobby.

Thanks!
After doing some more research some of the corals I want to eventually purchase will need the halide so I am going to just buy it now. I've also decided to upgrade the pump and add a powerhead for more flow.
