From what I understand at JBJ website this is an inclusive system lights, filtration and so on. Does one need a skimmer for mini coral nanocube.

Yes they are self contained. Cool system. I have a 12 gal up for a year now with no skimmer. I have not had problems. But others swear by them. I grow all soft corals for now on the lights that came with my tank and they are healthy.

They can easily have a surface skimmer added or you can also add a drop in skimmer in a compartment in the back. Current USA just came out with a protein skimmer made specifically for NANO cubes as such, and the surface skimmers can easily be home brewed or bought pretty cheap.
