last weekend i had one of my clowns get stuck in my pump (he's ok), well i had to pull my pump out to get him out of the chamber. ever since then my water has been really cloudy, i noticed alot of slime in the chamber. i changed out about 4 gal of water this evening and replaced my carbon. im gonna wait till morning to see if this helped. my question is what should i use for filter media? im using the stock setup, chamber 1 is foam, chamber 2 is ceramic rings, carbon and bio balls, chamber 3 is my pump and heater. i have about 20-25 pounds of live rock. ive read nanonewbies blog about his setup, im just not sure if i want to put chateo and a light in the back. should i take out the bio balls and add chemi pure? also my levels have been great since my cycle until last weekend when i added a bicolor blennie, my ammon and nitrites have been at .25 ever since. thanks for any advice.

in my lfs they sell some stuff they call "prefilter media" looks like a poofy sheet of woven cotton like material. you can cut your sponge in half and add some of that stuff in. its not as porous as the sponge and will help trap smaller particles.
another option is to change out the carbon with some chemipure elite, and as an added bonus chemi-pure elite i was told helps with eliminating phosphates.
another thing you can try is a make shift filter sock, go buy some nylons "the kind girls wear on there legs" cut off the foot part and rubber band it to your inlet in the DT and it will catch particulate and stuff and allow the water to flow through it.
im sure there is more things you can do but those are some things i would prolly try out.

Sweet.... Post a pic of tht tank... A lot of rock for a 12BC.... What I did was.... Disgard filter cartridge in first chamber , place heater in first chamber... Use filter floss for the top screen port to keep the BC ability of surface skimming.
Middle chamber place chemi pure elite for your nitrites and phosphates, on top of that place chaeto to control nitrates... And then a small 7 watt submersible light to feed the chaeto off the bay.
Then in third chamber most upgrade the return pump to a maxi jet 900 for more gph.. I removed the blue sponge and placed a thinner sponge and I clean tht sponge once a week with water change and place a small bag of carbon for water clarity into third chamber ontop of pump... And your good to go...
