I just got 2 250 watt MH kits that came with 4000 K bulbs. if I go with alot of Actinic lighting will this help or do I need to throw the bulbs away and go ahead and get some higher kelvin bulbs?
Other than the color what is the main disadvantage of this 4000 k bulb to the reef? :)

Hi , that is low on the spectrum side, more white, I would not pitch them tho, do you have room for some VHO or possible pc lighting? what is your primary care going to be in the tank? just fish? easy corals like shrooms? or are you looking at maybee they will live corals if I am lucky and have all the right stuff{ ya right} What are you planning to keep or what do you have? Let us know....cya ;)

They are trash. I recommend 12000K until you can get actinics, then go with 6500k or 10000K bulbs.

thanks for the info.
ordered them on the phone and they told me they were higher kelvin. got them and found out there standard phillips industrial lights. bummer I will shop more wisely next time! I should have thought the price was too good for what they were saying!
here is my stats
65 gal reef
I curently have 110 watts of pc using ge 9325 kelvin bulbs -- in the tank I have a maroon clown and a pucula clown and 3 damsils "wish I never bought the damsels" they are beutiful but a pain. and I have a green brittle star and a brown brittle star.
and several crabs and snails for cleanup crew, 55 pounds lr mostly figi some from the gulf, as for corals purple and green spotted mushrooms, yellow buttons, green buttons, and green stars pullips. all corals are doing great and spreading even though im under powered on the lighting. I want to go mh to get color and go with more types of coral.
xenia, cup , brain , bubble and clams. :)
