Will a single Ice Cap 250 watt Plug and Play Metal Halide ballast, spider reflector, socket, 12k and 10k bulbs be too much for my 40g breeder Mantis tank? Right now Im running a 24'' T5 4 bulb fixture. My Mantis has plenty of places to hide but all my corals are in there because my other tank is having problems. The MH that I want to buy is $80.

Should I put it on my Mantis tank? It has a canopy and my other tank that was a coral tank does not have a canopy so I wont be able to mount it.

Im not sure what you are talking about. Ive never had MH's before. This would be my first one. I was going to just drill a screw or two through the reflector and into my canopy and mount the ballast on the wall somewhere close. I will attatch the picture. I coudnt put it on my other tank because its a 55g long with a middle brace and no canopy.

if you dont have fans you will need to add them to your canopy. can you post a pic of your canopy

I have a large (and loud) fan mounted inside the 24'' T5 fixture. I could take it out and mount it somewhere inside my canopy if I needed to. I would have no other use for that lighting.
First pic is outside, second is the thickness of wood holding lighting fixture. Last two are lights with LED moon (christmas) lights. I would just take this fixture off and mount the MH on the wood. Or at least thats what I would do. Not sure if thats right or not.

Ok. I talked to the guy and Im getting the light. It has pre drilled holes so I just have to screw it into my canopy. The guy is also including a 2 fan system for air circulation. I also re measured and the light will be about 8-9'' away from the water.
So hopefully I'll be good. I also talked to the leading Mantis expert and I should be ok without cooking my Mantis.
