I am in the process of building my new tank, and I am not sure what to do about the lighting. The tank will be 26" deep so I was thinking 250watt but the light must penetrate through a pane of glass 3/8" thick. Should I upgrade to 400watts or will 250watt be enough? I plan on keeping SPS, LPS, Clams and some Soft Corals in my tank.

Why does the lighting have to penetrate through 3/8" thick glass???? No need for glass or tops on the aquarium, but maybe I'm missing something.......Anyways my vote would be for 250's, with good reflectors.....400's tons of heat and electrical cost.....Should have asked what size tank? Other than 26" deep.....I'm sure you'll have a SB so technically don't think it would be 26".....Advise though....

I built my own tank the top is sealed so it can create a vaccum and hold water above the water level in a lower tank, I have no choice but to have the light go through the glass, If you think 250watts will be enough then that is what I will go with.
