Great Q, Not sure if any of the fraggers will pony up their lighting setup. I went to a place that sells frags and advertises on that big

[hr]
site. What I saw really opened my eyes. They were using a horrible yellow light in one section. As we passed to go to the back (I wanted something else fragged) I asked the actual color they were using on those tiny frags. Guy told me they were 6500. I was light whoa that is not purty
he stated the sodium bulbs at 6500 were the best to grow out frags the quickest. I am thinking they basically quickly grow, then slam them under the 20k to color them up. I am not real sure how healthy they will be. My Experience

Well the higher the Kelvin, the better the looks, but slower the growth. My LFS uses 10k bulbs with some actinics to balance them out. 6500k bulbs are just ugly and you can see almost the same results from 10k bulbs. If you can't get any supplemental bulbs (actinics), just try a good 13k or 14k bulb.

I was thinking about using a 14k phoenix. Any other ideas? I really don't have room for actinics. I'm using a 20k radium in my 150watt set up and I love it. How close as far as looks is the 14k phoenix to the 20k? I'm going to be putting the 250watt reflector over a 29 gallon tank that will have mostly sps and I'm wondering would a 20k bulb be enough for good growth?

Well if you want the best look with some moderate growth 20ks are great. 14k have good looks and better growth. Lots of people love the new Phoenix bulbs for there color.

I just ordered my setup with a Phoenix bulb. I'm pretty excited.
