i am thinking of getting this since its on sale. the only thing that worries me is the heat buildup from the 150w mh. anyone has this currently? i dont think the 4 built-in fans can cool this closed lid tank. i am debating whether to get this or the solana cube.

the problem is i dont really want to get a chiller. my 2 current tanks r run topless. i will most likely get the solana cube.

My LFS has one set up and they dont have heat issues. When I had my PC lights with the original hood, it ran hotter than what it runs now, with my MHs. Only problem with the JBJ hqi hood is that its like running the hottest lights in the worst ventilation. You could do it but you might need to have the ceiling fan running and the opening on the hood up all day for circulation of the air. Otherwise, I would imagine you would have problems.
The Solana is nice. My 24 Aquapod with the Sunpod allows for a lot of air flow to be between the bulb and water surface so it works out.

I have this tank and the water does heat with the lights on. I wish I would have invested into the chiller when I bought the set. I can say and think you could convert to a topless tank if you wanted as the hood snaps off! All I do now until I can invest in a chiller is shut the lights off during the day for a bit to cool it down. I don't honestly think it heats up to bad though as the water stay's a little less then 80 or about that. Yes, it is a little warm but I have had no problems what so ever!

I was just thinking, Im not too sure how much the HQI hood costs to come on the tank already. You might be able to spend just about the same buying the JBJ 28 gallon and the Sunpod for it and have no heat issues. The Solana might get a little pricey, but it definitely has the highest quality filtration system and the best look.

thanx for all the replies. i am still debating which one to get. i like the open top look. maybe i will get the aquapod since its cheaper. i had a 24 nano with pc from the past, but the tank cracked when i was moving it a few months back.
