Well this is actually my dads project...sorta.
He took interest in the hobby after I started building a 125 reef tank.
My reef is on hold temporarily, but I got the green light to fire up this 28gallon HQI thats been collecting dust for a few months^^
here are some of the shots of the placement choices....
Possible placement in the entryway just to the left or right inside the arch:

Possible choices of living room placement in the right hand corner corner on the positive its furthest away from traffic, but close to TV, and noise..also note a small convection heater under the window. It doesn't blow hot air...but it radiates heat during winter.
The second spot considered in the living room was to the left...between the two couches..right behind the TVtray you see. But the brown ocuch is my favorite and i plop down on it all the time...last thing I need is spooked fish. And the surround speaker is hanging right there. Top it off with the open window into the kitchen area(you cant see from the angle, but notice the counter top right behind the brown couch) And your gonna get crashing and banging from dishes...so again, another noise source.

In the end, the main arch was chosen. Dad went to the hardware store and got a cabinet and counter top. Placement area will be the highest traffic(since its the main access to the living room), but least noise and outside lights. Since its the three of us, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Negating all the other cons Heat/noise/couch activity made this spot the win.
*It should be noted that my choice was in the living room, near the window, but I explained all the pros and cons, and the arch was his choice. Ultimately I think he's correct, so I have to give him props, even though I still like the corner*

He wants to mimic my rock wall in my 125DT, so taking some of the left overs from that project hears what he came up with....

He's still gonna lay in some more egg crate I'm sure..but this was what he chose so far.
I am still mulling over ideas for filtration. So far all I have is stock, but I would like to use the back space to add a Fuge w/chaeto. Im also looking into Purigen/Chemi-pure/Filter Floss as well. Any comments?
I would also like to add a nice skimmer, any thoughts on this as well?
Thats what we got for now. All the testing kits/sand/salt is hear already. LR will be ordered next Monday. So this weekend I set up the water and have it flowing.
Im getting LR hear at SWF since they have smoking hot prices. I chose the 20-25lb deal...i hope its 25lbs...since i wanted no more than 30 in this tank. And i definitely don't want 45-50lbs.

Yes, I was planning on adding one 6-12 months down the line, as the bio load increases. Can i survive w/out one? yup. but why not put it in if you got the room/cash.

here will be the RO-Di station. Its in the garage, a little tight with all the shelving ect..but there is a sink to the right, and that will be perfect in case the shutoff fails...the overflow from the bin will drain into the sink.

I'd skip the skimmer too. I'm sure you'll be able to find other things to spend the cash on. Keep the pictures coming as the rock wall progresses.
