A good hang on penguin will cost you about 40$ if I were you I would buy a CPR backpack skimmer. You can get them online on ---- for like 100$ I got mine used at a fish store for 80$ If you heavily stock your tank you definetly need one of these. If you get the CPR its good for up to 60g! even if you upgrade to a 55g it will still work.

A 29 gal with a mature/diverse DSB and approximately 30 or more lbs of quality lr would work...but the addition of a skimmer (I like the CPR bacpac 2r) would help ... my 55 fish only is basically the same type set-up(was without a skimmer for several months)...initially it developed a moderately high level of nitrates but since adding the skimmer things have stabalized.

My 29 Has a Fluval canister filter (50) but I wish I had gotten a HOB filter (CPR-125) (Remora-200)

thanks for the replies so far. I have a 90g reef tank with a dsb and lr so I don't want that in my 29g. For some reason I want to put cc in the bottom of this tank. It is only going to house a puffer fish and maybe one or two more fish. This tank is for my girlfriend. She is the one that wants the puffer. So I guess my question is what kind of filtration would you guys recomend for a lightly stocked 29g with just cc in the bottom.

Might I suggest a toby or sharpnose pufferfish. They would be able to live in there for the rest of there existance, but it would be a good idea that you upgrade to a 40-55 gallon within 2-3 years for a sharpnose pufferfish. Someotherfish I would suggest are grammas, gobies, and clownfish. Only 2 other fish I would recommend.
