i have a bio cube thats been runnnig for two years now. and i might get a shark egg and hatch it in there. isthis a good thing to do it in?

I have zero experience with sharks, but I cannot imagine that a 29 gallon cube could house a shark for very long at all.

Form all of the reading I have done I would say no.. Not big enough and wont house it for long like the above post said.. If you look on here there is some one else who has 2!! in a 10g.. One died well last time I checked just one.. I would not recommend it. I mean your gonna need a good size tank for it to live in and once it hatches changing tanks could be a bad thing. Usually if you keep a shark in the tank it hatches in it has a better chance of survival. It does not like changes in the sg and other stuff.. So in short I would say no but then again some people just dont listen...

oh no i know that they cant stay in there. i mean only when theyre eggs. i have a 150 gallon 8 foot long tank for one

Well see the prob I foresee is that when you move it to the other tank it could cause probs. Like I said they dont like change.. So it could work and might not. I am by no means a shark expert but I have done lots of reading to know some bit. You also have to have a really good filter sys for them! They need high quality water.

Hey. Good luck with the hatch.
I lost one because it starved to death. Didnt figure out that shrimp are food and you cant really force feed a shark.....
The other is going like a champ!.
Eating mostly Ghost shrimp now. Some freeze dried too which it will snatch from the surface. I had to use Squid to get it to start eating though.
Right now, its in a well controlled 10gallon far from my anenomies, corrals, Banded shrimp and so on.
I have a 150 arriving over the weekend which is going to get seeded from the 60g reef tank.
Then it gets the 60g for a while... few months probably while I build the shark tank...

thats good to hear! but the reason for not hatching them in the 150 is cuz its big and deep so it will be harder to get them to eat.

That right there is what I am talking about!! If you dont want your shark around that and you dont have a tank for it dont get it! A 10 gallon? Seriously? Wow.. Then its going to a 60.. Big improvement.
(sarcastic) Just hatch it in the 150. Use a feeding stick or what ever and make it eat. Do some reading hatching it in there will be your best bet. Hatching them in a 10g was not a good idea. But like I said no matter what people say most dont listen and do what they want to anyways no matter what some one tells them.

yeah i wouldnt want a shark in a ten gallon thats like.... me living in a fridge. lol. but yeah i was just thinking about it since ihave a 29 gallon that is cycled. thanks for the help! ill most likely just hatch them in the 150

The shark will out grow the 150gal. You need something in the hundreds of gallons, not a hundred. Something that is at least 8' foot long and 4' deep.
The 150gal would be able to house the bamboo (assuming this is the type of shark) till he gets around a foot or so, which would be within a year, year and a half.

Right mr Knight, a foot or so. 'Boos grow well, if you feed them right.
Moving sharks is tricky (trust me, iv assisted moving some of them at seaworld here in orlando). But as long as your patient (and careful, and wear a cup!) its fine.
The reason mine is in a 10g right now is simply because I am moving home in the next month (or maybe 6 weeks).
The reef tank is no problem to move. Iv moved that thing 4 times now. No loss so far.
The baby shark, I know I have to be more careful with. So, the ten is where its staying and getting daily water exchanges. When we move it will not have to be removed from the tank, nor will it be without filter for more than 20 minutes... Maybe even less if I move it in my car.
Once in the new home it gets the 60 gallon for about 2 or 3 months before (fingers crossed) the shark lagoon / tank is ready.
Plans so far put it at 11' x 15' x 4' deep.. (will be like the Koy pond I build in the UK 15'x12'x8' deep)
Try not to listen to the panic mongers. As long as your filter can handle it, theres enough room that the animal wont stress and you have a solid upgrade avalible. Your fine. Keep the word temporary in mind. Keep a close eye on things. Watch for stress. Your good.

Just because you have "successfully" kept one alive in a 10g that does not mean everyone should try it. It is just plane stupid to put a baby shark that hatches 5-6"+ in a 10g. A 10g is 20x10x12" thats to small.. I mean why not be patient and just wait till you have everything ready. NOTHING in this hobby is fast! So why not build your "shark lagoon" THEN get it. Kinda makes more sense..

i hatched a bamboo in a 29 biocube then moved it to my 265. Depending on tank mates i think it would be better to hatch it in the 29 to get it to feeding because if you try to get it to feed in the 150 with other fish they may just steal the food causing it be very hard to feed. However a 150 is not a suitable tank for your bamboo for life. My 265 was not large enough for my bamboo after a year or so and i got rid of it.
also i would transfer some water daily between each tank maybe pull a half gallon of water out of the 29 each day and replace it with a gallon from the 150 so your shark will pretty much be drip acclimated "ensuring the temps are also the same" the day you decide to move it from tank to tank.

From everything I've heard & read; maybe 1 in 10 shark eggs hatch and last more than a week. But I've never kept one and 1 in 10 is probably better odds than in the ocean.

what the...... are all you guys new or just crazy.... first off an 8 foot 150g tank is what 14-18 inches wide. which your shark will out grow in 6 months at the latest. and to hatch it in a ten gal and keep it there for any peroid of time is crazy. its not about overall size of the tank its about the foot print of the tank you need something wide and long like 4 feet by 8 feet. you guys should do the worlds oceans a favor and sell your tanks and get out of the hobby. jesus ive never heard something so stupid in my life as a 10 g shark tank. so to answere your question yes you can have a shark they are easy to hatch getting them to feed is the hard part, and the nutrition suplements they need. BUT GET A BIGGER TANK!!!!!

Yeah the 150 gallon - is a better tank option than hatching it in a 10 or a 29 gallon tank. And it's even better than a 55 gallon tank - which I've heard of being done for a few months.
BTW - jarrett -no ones suggesting keeping the shark pup in the 150 gallon for life. Just hatching it out and letting it get a little size on it before it's finally moved to a larger tank or pond.
