i setup my 29 about 3 wks ago its 40lbs ls 35baserock 20 lr, rena xp2 canister ,2 days after set up nitrateswere at 5 ppm did 10g change added 2 green chromis, one wk later did 5g change nitrates at 10ppm, am i slowingdown cyle? in tan 2 green chromis, 12 blue legged hermits 3margaritasnails and 2 astreas snails, havesome brn, algeon glass. anyhelp would be great.

It sounds to me like you are making the same mistake I made when I setup my 35gal. My advise is to stop putting stuff in your tank and wait until all the levels reach 0; amonia, nitrites and nitrates. Your LS and LR will eventually convert the Nitrates to Nitrogen gas, but it will take time for the bacteria and other goodies to develope. Take it slow and be patient or you'll end up like me. :mad:
I've been hypo salinating my only survivor of my Ich outbreak for the last 5 weeks and it's driving me crazy not being able to put back in the display tank. I lost 5 blue chromis, a Blue Tang, a Bicolor blenny and a tailspot blenny cause I went too fast with my tank and caused an Ich outbreak.

Amonia (deadly) --> Nitrites (deadly) --> Nitrates (harmful) --> Nitrogen gas (harmless)

20#lr came from my 12g that was up for a yr and about 20#s of the ls came from same tank, thansfor the advice, amm.-0 trites-0 trates 10ppm. andyesim stopping until i get everything to zeroand get aprotein skimmer, should i keep doing my water changes? thanks for all help,love this hobby.

dont keep doing water changes....it doesnt really help. Just add top off water. When you finish the cycle you might what to do a water change but wait till its finished
