2nd Floor?

Hey all,

What is the largest size tank you would feel comfortable with on the second floor? I'm thinkin about buyin a tank for my sons room but really don't want it goin through the floor. :notsure:

it's all a matter of how you spread the weight out...a stand with a large base is lighter per square ince that a small base. think of a water bed. they have a large base and all is usually well. i have a 2 story and i would feel comfortable with a 55g...maybe a 75 with an appropriate sized base. any bigger and i would want to consult a builder, or city codes for weight limits

i've gone up to 180gal perpendicular to joists with a major support beam below in the middle. no problems at all with this tank or the 125 that was there before. make sure it's at least 6" away from the wall to avoid the carpet tack strips.
just my experience of course, i don't know your house.

Noone here can safely answer this question without knowing the construction of your house. You need to figure out the construction and go from there. If you don't know what you got I would stay below 55 gallon just to be safe. A big factor is if you put above a load baring wall or edge of house.
