I think their trying to tell you something! That they are not to be encarcerated, like Great White Sharks.

Well i would think its hard to keep them happily fed seeing as in the wild they eat like ten tons of krill a day. I cant imagine how any aquarium could keep one let alone four.

That's very sad to hear. I'll be making my first trip to the georgia aquarium this weekend so I hate to hear this news..

The girls have been fine. They are in a 6 million gallon tank. They are happy as can be. This is the first time ever for them to be kept in public this is new for everyone, so this will help others in the future to know their behavior. It is sad that Norton is gone, but he will help us learn about them.

your right, it was rude of me to forget they killed Ralph too.
Those shirts are now a huge marketing folley and you know fingers are pointing and they will try to buy back the existing buckets out there. Sad but comical at the same time.
And no this is NOT the first time they have been kept in captivity. Just first time they tried in this country, they opened the exibit a few years ago.
Hopefully they are learning from the exp. Its never taken lightly when a larger aminal dies in captivity. They did outright kill Ralph by mishandling him. But Norton is still yet to be determined.
RIP Ralph and Norton

With a 50% casualty rate I'd say it may be too early to say they are "fine" and "happy". Clearly something is wrong.

just a question. why the outrage and dispare when this happens in a public aquarium trying to keep them as appropriately as they know how when there are a zillion worse atrosities happening with fishing, recreation ect. I find it hard to come down on an aquarium. IO are fools for that campaign given the uncertainty of the outcome. There PR people should find a new line of work. Damn cocky of them too.

Sorry to hear about that but sometimes that happens to animals when it is for our benefit. GO BRAVES!

That's my issue; They are experts. They should know better.

I understand that they are supposed to be "experts" but as we learn from our own fish keeping, or from others that are "experts", sometimes fish die. I do not condone it in any way, but it happens. How is this any different from us owning wildlife? They are much larger and it is publicised. How did we know that some butterflies can live in home aquariums and some cannot? How did people learn that any wild fish could live in captivity? It is very sad and unfortunate, but it is all part of the hobby. Don't you think? Please don't get me wrong. I do not think that it is ok that they died. Isn't that science though? It is realy all just a lot of tests and guesse until the guesses and the tests prove steady results. It can all change at the drop of a hat though. Nothing is ever completely definate.

Still, they belong in the ocean ... Way too large of a fish to keep in captivity. Any other sharks are doable in a public aquarium.

I would agree with ya in some cases Sep, but not this one. I think this was a publicity stunt from the beginning.

to get more crowded
it is clearly one, where else in the world can you see a whale shark?? wether its a good one or not is still to be decided in my book. if another one dies, i would say do a few more years of research before they take the plunge for the big fish... but dang would it be cool to see one... as sep said, its a learning process and trial and error will happen but with the whole world watching, its under a lot more scrutany...
so thats my scoop, im keepin my fingers crossed for the other two

well...the only way they can get a whale shark to stay alive in captivity is to have one born in captivity that way the whale shark will be born used to captivity. And it is a really nice aquarium. It is a 2 billion gallon tank.
