Reef_Magic: yeah it needs some color! Part of the problem is my POS web cam does an injustice. It's seriously about 5 yrs old. I'm thinking some SPS primarily Acropora sp. (but whatever else I can get as frags) at least one Caulastrea sp., GSP, and the ever popular Zoos. My BIGGEST problem will be finding frags that will fit. I'm considering a shrimp (thinking a Sexy but not too sure, something small, suggestions welcome) and a TR Neon Goby or Clown Goby.
Also I'm planning on reading up more and experimenting with luxeon LEDs. I'm thinking 1X5W white and 4X1W royal blues. I've already ordered a 85mcd moonlight (managed to find one with a 470nm rating! woohoo!). :jumping:
Harlequinnut: I bought the LR in the filter for the display but I felt it looked too full so I stuck them in the filter for added bio filtration. Taking into consideration how the light shines in the entire system I just might add a piece on macro in the filter to act as a refugium for nitrate export since I can't really have a DSB.

well for starters...i seriously hope u were joking about putting a fish in that! dont put sexy shrimp in ther eunless they have an anemone or long tentacle coral to perch in (which u cant fit)
are u serious about SPS coral? thats gonna be impossible, with 9 watts of light
unless there is something about luxeons...what are those?

Luxeons are ~8X brighter than a regular high intensity LED. Luxeons clock in ~600,000mcd vs. regular high intensity LEDS ~5000-10,000mcd. So the lighting wont be a problem, I've been doing a lot of reading on it and no one has had problems.
I'm not entirely joking about the fish (I can already hear the ensuing lectures). There are a lot of things that will have to be fixed (ie an auto-top off) before that becomes an attempt. Also, I'm not about to attempt this w/o a back up plan like a second tank.
Also on a side note, I swapped the 13W PC for the 7W PC (both 7200K) until I can come up with a more reliable stand to clip on the 13W PC.

Well I had in mind a Clown Goby or a TR Neon Cleaner Goby BUT upon further research I've squashed the idea.
Still trying to find a reliable DIY top off system for about 6oz of water per day. I'm not home 24/7 to top off and I would like to reduce that kind of salinity swing. 6oz is about 15% of my total tank volume. I've been considering one of the drip systems you can purchase for reptile tanks. Any ideas?

Never heard of anything for that small volume of water, I'd think a drip system may be your best bet.

I think that drip system would work great. I have one that I use for my chameleon and they work pretty good. Now that you mention it I think I will use one of them to dose Kalk. Good luck with the tank.

Thanks verde_ad if you have the one that is white and green then we're talking about the same one. I'm asking for a digi camera for my B'day (mid july) so I'm hoping to have better pictures for you, but until then I will be adding pictures w/ the POS webcam as I make additions.

After reviewing some posts about breaking up pieces of LR I decided to break my "big" 1lber up into 3 pieces with a little left over rubble for the filter. I like the look a lot more now. I'll be adding corals on Sunday so I'll have updated photos.

I'm curious about the Luxeons. What I'm reading seems to indicate that Luxeon emitters top out at 5500K, hardly an ideal range for reef illumination. Is this incorrect, or do you have another way to get around this?

Well honestly it's a ~$100 experiment and I wont get rid of my current lighting until after I'm sure everyone has made the adjustments.
I've contacted one of the main suppliers for Luxeons and I'm asking a rep (ironically named Coral) what the K temp is before I try it. I've gotten mixed results of 5500K and 6500K from web research. I'll get back to you when I get a response from Coral. The Royal Blue is decent @ 455nm and the reg blue is a good moon light @ 470nm. Ya never know unless you try.

I just picked up the same "setup" this afternoon from *****. ($29.99). A LFS had one setup that was packed with corals and even had a clown goby. Why did you decide against the goby for yours? I'm thinking about a fire shrimp and a bunch of frags that I will eventually take from my 90 gal.. I'm totally "geeked" about this thing.
I took water from my 90 and a chunk of LR so I hope that will speed up the cycle. ?I'm currently trying to get a small piece of my xenia to crawl onto a small rock in the meantime. Then I can use that to add to my new sub-nano tank. I am also planning on some zoos and some stars. We'll see what else once I get it gonig.:jumping:
I figured I will set up a drip system for top-off but I'm more worried about calcium and PH.

I want to set up a drip for mine too. I loose about 6oz of water/day. Any ideas on how to reduce the drip to that slow?

Probably not gonna be real easy.
Even at 6 oz. a day if you top off 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening you should only have a salinity fluctuation of about 1.1 PPT. Your livestock sees much worse conditions during acclimation and it happens in a shorter amount of time. I also thought about making a cover to fit over a portion of the top.
