Is 30 gal too small for an aggressive tank. What could I put in it? do aggressive tanks get dirtier than reef tanks. I am contemplating a switch in a few months. I like the personality of aggressive fish.

it's not too small but it limits what you can put in it. what kind of aggressive fish are you into? you could fit any of the dwarf lions in there, or any of the toby puffers too. the regular puffers, triggers, volitan lions, and groupers would get too big for a tank that size. aggressive fish are messy eaters. plus it's hard to keep scavengers (crabs, snails, etc) to clean up after them because they try to eat them as well.

Though 30 might sound seemingly small, you still have a lot of options. Just as gregvabch said, tobies are always good. You can also try hawkfish..small basses.........etc

:happyfish Hi, I started with a 30 gal. and switched to a 60 gal. WAY, WAY easier to keep up than the 30 gal. With fish only's they tend to be harder to keep the amonia, nitrite, nitate down due to waste, and the smaller the tank, the harder to keep healthy. The rule of thumb is to get the largest tank you can afford. If money is the problem, look into buying a tank from the classifieds, in your local newspaper. Good luck, alison
