30 gallon bowing out

Just noticed that the front glass on my 30 gallon tank is bowed about 3/16" out in the middle. Bow is much more at top of glass than bottom. Is this normal? May have been this way all along, but just noticed and freaking out a little. Recently got a 55g tank(much thicker glass) and it doesn't bow out at all. The plastic retainer that goes on the top of the glass has a cross bar on the 55 but not on the 30, could that be the reason?

is tish a speacial tank or a mass produced tank. how old is the tank. what kind of lights do you have and how far off the tank are they?

Tank is 2.5 years old, bought used, so not positive its standard but sure looks that way. Lights are coralife 2x65w pc, on legs about 2" off top surface. I have glass hinged lid, that's how I found issue, nice straight edge of glass lid sits on plastic rim, perfect in corners and gap in middle.

well I wouldnt be too woried about 3/16 of a bow busting the tank and your lights are not the issue...... if it bothers you you can emty the tank and add a clear 2 inch piece of lexan as a center brace. you would attatch it with nylon nuts

My 40 gallon acrylic bows too...but it's acrylic so I don't worry about it (since it bends easier than glass). It's also 10 years old and has been like this for quite a while.

Thanks, probably fine just never noticed it till now. Its been a few days and no further bowing so probably just normal with the pressure of the water, length and thinness of front glass and no middle support.
