Hi everyone, this is my first saltwater setup (years of freshwater) and i have learnt a lot from this site and from various books. I just want to know what everyone thinks of it so far.
So far im still in the cycling process, ammonia has gone and i still have nitrites, waiting for them to convert to nitrates. I am cycling my tank with Ammonium Chloride and so far so good!
Equipment:
Aqua One Windsor 88 Corner Aquarium with 12 mm Glass 48" x 36" x 28"
20kgs Red Sea Reef Base
Eheim Pro 3 electronic external cannister filter
Hydor 300w inline external heater
Aqua Medic turboflotor 750 Protein Skimmer
3ft 2x30w Reflector
2ft T5 3x18w Reflector (the light will be upgrading soon)
Hydor Koralia no.1
Approx 80kg Base Rock (limestone)
Aqua Medic Digital Specific Gravity Meter
Marina Digital Thermometer with Temp Rise/Drop alarm
I Currently have an aqua one AR380 38 litre aquarium (fully cycled) which is my quarantine tank for the above setup. currently it houses a pair of ocellaris Clowns in it.
I also have a 250 litre container constantly mixing synthetic saltwater at 1.023 sg and at 25 degrees celcius with a return pump to go straight to the tank.

Welcome to the boards!
Well, it looks like someone did their homework before jumping in and buying fish; nice work!

So what are your plans for the tank?
I was going through your equipment list, and saw the Hydor inline external heater. I've never heard of that before, but now I want one. I'm sick of the suction cups going out on my dang heater!

Thank you very much, i read tonnes before i even filled the tank with water hehe. Yeah the hydor inline heaters are great, especially because its not in your tank it cannot fall off the suction cups and break in your tank and they make your tank look a lot neater by not having it in view.
Fish and invert Plans at the moment are ocellaris clowns, blue starfish, green chromis, cleaner shrimp and some encrusting blue sponges. im not rushing in to stocking it and am still researching what will work best together. it takes time but then i will not have hassles later on (hopefully)

Looking good. Since you have some good shady areas check out the sun coral. They add a splash of color.

That is the nicest sand I have ever seen. What kind is it and where can I get it from!? They look like little balls.

Your tank is beautiful .... only thing i would suggest is to paint the back of the tank definately make everything stand out more .... but I cant complain i only wish that when i get my tank its half as nice as yours

The substrate is "Reef base" by Red Sea, it's quite expensive (cost me $200 per 20kg and i ordered 40kg!, but thats in Aussie dollars)
But i figured, hey its something you may have for ever so why not get the best
the reef base acctually buffers your calcium, raises your ph and is nice and soft for all sorts of inverts and fish.
The back does have a black background on it but because the tank is a corner tank all sides seem be be reflective beacause they're on an angle, but it does give it more depth i guess.
Iv'e got big plans for this tank but im not going to rush anything at all.
Thanks for everyones great comments.

your tank looks great! i like the sand myself. i might look into that. a nice anemone would go nice in there. or leather and polyps. keep it up. i just looked up the sand and its $49 for 6kg (13lbs) and for 20 kg(44 lbs) for $148. that made my pockets hurt a bit lol

buying the substrate made my pockets hurt too but it's a one time investment and it looks 10 times better in person. i would do any future tanks in it without a second thought

i havent bought it yet. just thinking bout the price makes the pockets hurt. it does look terrific though without a doubt. i will see if i can order some in about a month or so. have school to pay for lol and lights for the tank
