4 inch hippo tang in 8 gallon tank

I have not been in the hobby for as long as some of you, my tank has only been up and running for about 6 months or so. And while I do not claim to be the master of salt water fish, there are some things that I do know full well thanks to the experienced awesome people on this site. One of the things that I have learned full well is that I should never try to get a hippo tang in my small tank... The simple fact that Hippo tangs (and/or all tangs) need a lot of swimming room.
A few days ago, I was getting cat litter at a local p e t c o, not the one I normally go to, but it was a new one that Ive been meaning to check out. As I walk in, I see the fish section right up near the front, and I decide to go check it out and see what fun things they might have.
I was completely flabbergasted when I saw this tragic sight. a 4 inch hippo tang, in a tiny 8 gallon cube, filled 1/4 of the way with glass marble rocks at the bottom, a bunch of fake plastic plants, and a huge plastic castle. and the tang is struggling to swim around it all.
My heart just broke.

I grabbed the nearest employee that wasnt 16 years old and gave him an ear full, yelling and screaming about what he was doing to that poor fish. He just totally didnt care. There was a big 120 gallon sw tank nearby that only had a few fish in it and I told him he at least needed to get him into that one. its still not big enough for him but its better than an 8 gallon in wall cube filled with plastic crap. he shrugged his shoulders and didnt do anything about it.
I was going to buy the tang, just so I could drop him off at my lfs who has a 600 gallon display tank, gonna see if I could get store credit for him, he is a beautiful fish, but stressed as ever in that itty bitty tank. But I was flat broke so I couldnt. I walked out of there broken hearted, I didnt even have the cat litter I originally planned to buy.
Since then, Ive been paid, So Im going to go back to that store and see if theyve moved him or not, and if they havnt Ill buy him and get him into the 600 display at my lfs.
Just needed to share that with you all.

When I saw this I was like great somebody killed a hippo...again. Thanks Finding Nemo. Then I read it and am now very interested. I hope it's still there...or in the larger tank so you can take care of it. Keep us posted

If it is a *****, You Should be able to go over the store's head.. There's a hotline number you can call, and report the store.. I have a part time job at a local *****, And Were not allowed to house any fish but bettas outside of the standard 30 gallon or 15/15 split tanks in the wall.. (still too small for most of what we get in, but much better then 8 gallons)
Even if they are setup differently I doubt their supposed to have any fish in those display tanks.. Granted the company's not exactly sympathetic to Animals, but that sounds like a surefire way to kill that tang, and their not going to want to lose that money.
This number should get you through to the store feedback hotline: 1-888-824-7257 (Monday - Friday 5AM - 7PM PT, Saturday/Sunday 8AM - 5PM PT) and after hours at 858-453-7845 extension 5858. There is also an anonymous animal care hotline for employees that changes store to store. You may be able to either talk an employee into calling, or find another way to get your hands on the number, as it is anonymous...
I'd recommend speaking to the General Manager (store Manager) first, but only because that will probably be the first thing they ask you
(A ***** store near us actually just lost all of their animals over issues like this, Now they just sell supplies)

Is that not in the Boy Scout code of conduct?

There is the oath and the law, no code of conduct. There is also the outdoor code and the motto and the slogan...but no code of conduct.
