Hello,
We are starting a 40 gallon shaallow frag tank, we ordered 400w MH 6500k lights. While we wait for the lights(coming in next week), we set-up the tank abit. We've added a 20 gallon Aquaclear hang-on filter, a 528gal/H power head, ~5lbs of live rock, 11lbs of live sand, some cheatos, 7 kinds of soft corals, hermit crabs, dusters, 1 chiton and that's it for now. Tell us what you think about it, when I get the lights, I will buy 10 more corals and probably 2 False Percs and 11-22lbs of live sand with 15lbs of live rock.

What other corals do you plan on keeping. 6500 400watt halide will be a lot for soft and some lps.

400w on that size tank will be alot for anything. The corals will already be stressed from fragging and then be totally shocked by the lighting. What kind of lighting do you have on your display tanks? As long as you keep soft corals and LPS on the far sides I think they will be fine.

Hopefully you can hang the light, that much lighting will shock the frags, and or cause an abundant of algae. Everything else looks great though.
What are your plans for the light?

First, thanks to everyone for the consideration of my tank. Second, yes I will hang my 400w MH 6500k with 2 metal strings and for the softies that require less light, I will put it under the eggcrate where light can still penetrate easily. I will hang the light 1.5-2 feet away from my frag tank. Should I add 2 fals percs with a bicolor blenny and a golden head sleeper?

Oh yes, I forgot, I will turn the halide on 2 hours after the sun wakes up the corals and if it's still too shoking for them, I will buy 2x54w blue actinics T5HO that will turn on 1 jour before the halide.

That table its on...., You sure that is enough to hold that much weight????? I dont think I would ever put a tank on a glass table! Just my thoughts though!

It's a temporary stand lol, it used to hold a 25 gallon freshwatr tank, I didn't fill it up to the top incase it would break! That would be bad news!!! I am gonna ger a used stand this week and I will place it in the living room.

way too much light imo, and I am surprised that stand is still even holding that tank. It doesnt look very stable to me...
good luck though, let us know if you ever have anything to trade/sell

LOL! Thanks for considering! I put my tank on the ground because now I am gonna fill it up to the top. 400w, maybe it's too much maybe not but it was te same price as a 250w, so I went with the 400w! Pics coming soon. And yes, I will sell, exept the only prob is that live in Canada... But I will have th best corals on the market!
