400w Mh

Not sure myself so, will one 400W MH 14K Bulb in a Mongul Socket spread the light good enough for a 75g? Or will a 440W VHO fixture do the same job as the MH's.

No, 400w of metal halide and 440w of VHO are not comparable. You will get A LOT more light from the halides.
Since the 75g is 48" long you are going to want two halides. You could get away with one if you used a good reflector like the luminarc, but it'll leave a nasty shaddow from the center brace.
Given that, dual 400w halides on a 75g is a lot of light, not overkill but IMO you are going to have major heat problems.
Have you looked into T5ho? A fixture with (6) 54w bulbs individually reflected would allow you to keep anything you wanted as well with a lot less cost and heat.

wango, would the T5 fixture make the coral grow at the same rate as with the halides?
Depends, there are a lot factors to take into account so I can't really give you a yes/no answer. Given the right setup you can get PARs from T5 that are equal or greater than those of some halide setups (not all though). Don't forget that there are a lot of other factors that coral need for growth in addition to light.
Each system has their strengths and weaknesses and situations where one may be the better choice over another, but I don't think you can say that one is superior overall to the other. Some of the best tanks I've seen are T5 only.

Includes: 400 W E-Ballast, 12' cable, Mogul socket, parabolic polished aluminum reflector and your choice of lamp.
Price: $249.90
This is what im looking at for MH trying to stay under $300 with bulb. I know that a hard budget to work with but Im only a freshmen.
Is it a possibility of removing the center brace or is that a safety/not enough support problem. Looking at it, it dosnt look like its doing to much work.

if i was you i would go with the icecap 660 ballast and put eather 4 VHOs or 8T5s on your tank, its going to cost alittle more but i think 1 400 watt MH would over heat a 75 gallon, i had 2 150 watt MH and it woul dover heat mine
or i would go with the duel 175W MH the 400 watt MH is really more then you need as the higher the wattage is for deeper tanks and a MH 70 watt is good all the way down to what??? i do belive 24 inchs where 400 watts are recommended on tank DEEPER then 48" but that isnt law as i know alot of people with 30" deep tanks that use 400 watt MH

I cant really hel[ you much with MH as I have never had them but you asked if you can take then center brace off and you can NOT. It will mess it up. and I have 660 vho on my 75 and love them

I have found a nice VHO system with 440W and am considering it but would like to see if i could rig up something with MH's
Also are you able to keep everything without a problem. SPS?

If you are set on halides two 175w would be ok, but two 250w would be better IMO. You could use PC, VHO, or T5 for actinics supplimentation if you wanted.
If you went all VHO you would be ok with softies and most LPS. If you do want to keep clams and SPS you're going to want either halide or T5.
On a side note, one of my LFS just replaced all the VHO that they used on their coral stock tanks with T5. They did it in rows and the difference between the VHO and the T5 lit tanks was insane. I would seriously look into T5.
