whats the difference? 460 looks more blue right? then what does the 420 look like? what makes the colors pop more?

I like getting a combination of the two myself. I get a dual actinic on my PC. The 420 makes the corals really pop out. But the blue adds a little more blue to the tank. Thus I like the combination.

i wonder how that would look with a 4x pc unit with 2 10,000k, 1 420nm and 1 460nm. im not sure if it would blend enough of if half the tank would be bluer and the other half would pop more...

Why not get 2 10k and 2 dual actinic? Then it blenss everywhere.
That's what I do, and it looks beautiful. I guarantee it!

i was thinking the same thing, but then i realized only half the tank would get the 420 and half would get the 460 and it would look weird.
frankthetank has a better idea, but those bulbs are pricey. i eventually got my lights online, but they were a noname brand on some big site for about $20 (iirc) each. problem is they didn't fit well into my corallife setup.

What size fixture is this? Or in a canopy?
Current bulbs are the way to go IMO. They are affordable and dual actinics aren't really any different than a straight actinic.
I personally wouldn't buy a coralife bulb. Don't like them. I've used Current bulbs for over a year and a half without any problems. I have good coral growth, great pink and purple coraline algae and an absolutely beautiful looking tank.

I plan on doing one 420nm & one 460nm T-5 bulbs over my 40 breeder.
I'm hoping that the two colors will mix in the water and just look really good and it won't look half blue and half purple.
I figure it might take me switching them from front to back, and then back again before I get the visual color from the front view that I want.

i'm sure with t5s they would blend perfectly since they span the length of the tank. just with compacts, one would be on one side of the tank, the other would be on the other side of the tank.
