46g bowfront reef tank dairy

Hi everyone
!
I been to this site for month now and got the reef bug now. I have deicide to convert my fish only to a reef tank
. Plus do an over haul on the all the equipment too. So far I have new replacement bulbs on the way. I change my busted impeller and the impeller wall cover too. I just got in maxi jet 400 and 900 to give my tank a 15x turn over. Also if seen my old treads I’ll be changing out my CC and fake crap out of my tank today and replacing it with 54lbs lr and 40 lbs of live sand too.I'll buy a new background (black) to help everything show up sharper in the tank. I’ll also do a 35% water change to get my nitrates below 160 ppm and cal down too. I’ll be doing all today with my gf since she wants to learn the rops of a sw tank (90% me and 10% of her working hehehe.)
. Soon I’ll be giving her a nano tank for bday in a couple months too. Her goal is to have a shark tank just as big or little smaller like that 2700g shark tank down the road
.
Here is a couple of my pics of the tank right now before the change today..

ok. well for starters i would do a water change to get your nitrates lower. the nitrates need to be way below 160ppm. they should be around 0-20ppm. and the live rock and sand that you buy should needs to be cured for 4-6 weeks before you can put any fish in there. if you put fish in there before that they will likely die from the ammonia. also what type of lights do you have? a reef tank, depending on the coral, will need some pretty intense lighting.
what are all of your water parameters?

the live sand and lr been curing for a week and it spiked at .25 in (new) trash can and went to zero. PLus no coral is going in untill everything is zero and cal. is 450ppm at least for two weeks straight then i'll go out and buy one to test the water.
This is not the first time trying a reef tank. I just changed becuase i had no time to take care of the coral after awhile becuase i was a freshman in college
. Now i have time and some money to start one up again with more knowledge .
P.s tank been up and running the last four years as sw.

Oh i'll be doing mushrooms and zoos since i have PC's. I been doing the research for the last month and asking q's and getting them answered by the pro's and well know people on here ( MichaelTX, 1journeyman, Thomas712) to name the few. i be starting a hour...

I've got the same tank with 192 watt PC's and I have some nice LPS corals if you wanted to go that route with it. Have fun with you reef build!

who wants pics???!?!?!?!
I just got done with everything and puttting the fish and bta back into the tank. I still that nitrates problem but everything zero like has been for the last month. The bta i have had is much happier along with the fish. I think the fish like the setup better then the last one.
Dont worry everything has been cycled in a trash can already and stuff. Alos bought some tiger pod for my tank to make the fish and lr be healther

finallly got my background change and the nitrates down to 20 ppm but going to do a 25% chance tomorrow to get the last of it to zero!!!!

Now i'm on a roll.

nitrates:0
nitrites :0
amm: 0
pH:8.1 and rising to what i need 8.3
SG: 1.25
Any ideas what to add to this nice tank now in corals????
Lighting is 192W PC's and 15X turnover

Tanks looking good man! Be careful with that thermometer tho it would be really bad if it was to break.

Also.. that looks like a CPR BAK-OAK you have.. I also have one on my 46g bow and I put my heater down inside it and its worked great like that for years. I don't have the bio bail stuff or anything inside mine its not needed in a reef tank.

I think long term you'll be very happy. I like the aquascaping you've done so far. You might think about a bit more rock though.
