5.5 gallon for QT

I wanna have a QT for a long time since I got old fish killed by newly bought sicked/diseased fish. I have a 5.5g tank sitting on the bench right now and I am just wondering if it would be good to make it to be my QT. I would only QT small fish since my main tank is only 20g. But I heard that I may have to change water everyday to avoid the tank from going into a cycle or something related to a cycle. Anyone has this small of a tank as their QT?? Any input is appreciated. IMO 5.5 is a little small for a quarantine even for small fish. Water changes may be a necessity for that kinda tank. A good twenty or 29 gal tank should do nicely though.
