SO, my husband has convinced the owners of our house to let us set up a 50g tank (even though the property manager didnt even want me to set up the 12g pod I have, lol) and I need to know what kind of equipment for a reef..
Ive never had a reef set up (had a 150g aggressive with a few softies but thats it, a 35g baby aggressive tank and my 12g pod)
I want to start with the easy stuff of course, and I am going to have a sump as the tank is drilled (so atleast a 20g sump hopefully a 20L to facilitate room for skimmer and such)
and my husband will eventually be building my LED fixture :) but in the meantime im going to go with a cheap odyssea Halide/t5 combo..
SO... skimmer?? Ive always had ASM's.. but im open to better options
Pumps.. ive always had CHEAP odyssea ones but would like something a bit more quiet and powerful...
and Heaters??? Ive got my old fully submersible stealth ones but only 2 work now (have them in the 12g for now, lol)
I have a koralia nano and am hoping thats the only extra powerhead I need in this tank (havent seen if its a single or double drilled yet though) so im open to ideas on those also ( and of course Id love ones on a controller but not sure if thats in the budget)
So... im trying to figure out the best combination for a decent price.. i dont want to go super cheap (though used is always an option) but i dont want the most expensive either as I will probably be upgrading in a year or 2 if we buy a house here (want an inwall set up!!!)

Why not stick with your ASM's......They perform decent, and I think the biggest issue might be getting it to fit a 20 gallon, but anythings possible......Heaters I'd recommend something a little better maybe on the lines of Ebo Jager......Titanium heaters would be a better choice, but you can't beat Ebo's reliablility IMHO........
As far as PH's you want to get most of your flow from PH's, so I would honestly think you'd need more than 1 PH for the tank......As far as main pumps staying on the conservative side of cost Mag might be your best option......If your looking electrical smart Water Blaster would be a good option as well.....

Good ideas so far yall...i may stick with ASM just becasue I do like them but I didnt know if there was a better footprint on one that could take up less space...and im hoping for a 30g long for a sump but its going to be whatever i can find at a decent price...like if that pet store does the $back per galllon sale ill get a 30 or 40g,lol

Probably the best advice at this point would to build your sump around which skimmer you opt to use......
