55 freshwater set up

I am going to set up a in wall 55 gallon predrilled tank w/wet/dry for a friend. How long does a freshwater tank cycle? I have only had Saltwater tanks... Is a wet/dry good for a freshwater tank? I only know saltwater!!

The same basic principles apply to a freshwater tank. They do seem to take a little longer to cycles though. You could try the shrimp method to get the cycle going. A wet/dry would be fine.

Up to 100 days, and yes a wet-dry will work fine.

Anyone ever try using a goldfish to cycle a fresh tank? They generate alot of waste but they are very hardy. It may speed up the process and then if you put piranna in there or a nice gar they make a good lunch for them! <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

I have been doing freshwater for 7 years and it never took that long to cycle. I would add fish after the first week.
