if your refering the leopard eel as in the tesslata than no your tess would be a killer being to big and nasty to handle in a 55

the tessy and leopard r 2 completely diff species w/ both needing a larger aquarium then what u r thinking of providing. as for the richardson id only do one eel for that tank w/ the stock ur planning

i think you could do two eels especally if you consider a viper moray or a goldden dwarf a sfe might be capable of eating the richardsons in the future but i think the other 2 eels mentioned would work out

sharkboy- it has been told to me by a lot of people including aw2x3 that 2 eels tha dnt get over 24 inches would be fine.

What species, exactly, are you talking about when you're referring to the "Leopard Eel"?

Again...need more information. Just because a store has it labeled as something, doesnt mean that's what it is.

No...it's not ok that you posted the link...it'll probably be removed soon...but, at least we got a scientific name.
Scuticaria tigrina will grow to 120cm...aprox. 50", so no, it's not ok for a 55gal. tank. Also, it'll probably be more than happy to eat other Morays..definately one as small as a Richardsons.

hmmmmm.... ok thrn could you reccomend soem eels that wuld be good in my tank besides a golden dwarf moray lol

Man, the only thing that you're going to run across at LFS that might work are snowflake and zebra. Not to disagree with AW, by any means. I have a zebra moray that I've owned so long, it's kept me in the hobby! I bought it between 1987 & 1990. I kept it, a snowflake, and an undulated trigger in a 55 for years. The main fish came and went. but these two eels, a couple of pieces of PVC, and some rock were pretty much a staple of my "dead sea" display.
"Francais" is in a 75 now, and still going strong.

there are many types of eels that would do well in a 55 for a long time but the biggest problem in finding them to be sold and finding the exact species your looking for common mistakes made by the lfs and retailers is that most have no clue what type of species it is and often mis identify them for easier sale, thus leaving the hobbiest clueless as to how to properly house and care for them .for instance i found a lfs near me just the other day they are advertizing the sale of 2 hawiian dragons for sale 200 bucks each ..well of course i ran right over to see if they were the hawiians 22 bucks is an awsome price .well as i anticipated they were not the hawiians at all they were jeweled/aka mex dragons..the store just had no clue this i seam to find alot of ... i suggest going to fishbase.org get the info on what you want or may have found before purchasing it..btw the leopard moray IS the common name for the hawiian and japanese dragon moray eel according to fishbase.org they are the same spicies of eel slight colorations are due to variables in diet from origen
