Hi guys...I have a 55 gallon split top tank with the two of your standard glass tops...I currently have my light fixture just laying on top of the glass...are there any other options. For light...for example is there some sort of built in lights made for a split top 55? Thanks as always everyone :~}

I just used 4' 2 tube shop lights(utility) fixtures over my 55g. With a couple of 2x4 blocks to hold them off the top especially the center brace. Fixtures cost like $12 at home depot and tubes were something like $6 for 2 tubes.

+1
What I did was replace the glass top with 1/4"square egg crate sold as lighting diffusers. a 2'x4' sheet was $11 or so.
That's the first thing I did when I set up my 36g and it'll be the first thing I do when I finish my 72g. I took scrap from the eggcrate and stacked 3- 3x3 pieces at each end of the tank and set my LED's on that so I wouldn't lose any light.

I would say great minds think alike but you've got many, many more years on me.
