55gal stock question

hey all,just wandering if there's a good rule of thumb on stock.right know i have about 9-10 inches total on my fish,4 total.i don't wanna create too much bioload.thanks

i've got 2 perc clowns,yellow tang(3in),and an anthias(3-4in).appox 40lbs lr and a bunch of soft corals

You want to keep all your fish through their full lifespans and not have them die early, right? Then don't count how big they are presently. Add up about how large they SHOULD be full grown. That adds up roughly to about 18" so far and by all trustworthy accounts you should allow AT LEAST 3 gallons per inch of fish (some like more breathing room and say 5 gallons).

If you do get another (and it would be pushing it probably, but doable) make sure you get one that isn't messy. I think a bottom dweller that might find some leftover food would be a good idea. Lot's of gobies are good for that. You could even get a shrimp goby and pair it with a pistol shrimp (if you have a sand substrate) then between the both of them scavenging you'll probably negate any issues caused by the added fish (but I wouldn't add any more).
