Hi all,
Never posted before but I've spent countless hours over the years scouring these message boards for advise. I'm preparing to move across the country and since not taking my tank is not an option, I'm forced to downsize to make things manageable. I'm going from a 120g down to a 57g deep blue professional edge.
I wanted something rimless and went with it on an impulse despite the obnoxiously large center overflow. I bought it yesterday figuring that I could somehow modify it to take up a little less real estate. A day later, I have now completed this task and reclaimed an area about 2.5"x10.5". It wasn't easy though. The overflow was a massive pain to get out. After several hours of going at it with a razor blade, a 9 gage electric guitar string saved the day. I'll tell you though, just before discovering the guitar string I was so frustrated with it that I was nearing surrender.
Now that it's all put back together, though, it's amazing how much of a difference it makes and I'm really glad that I followed through. I'm going to be building a stand tonight while the silicone is drying and then get it plumbed up.
I'll post some pics so that people can see the moded overflow, with the right tools it wasn't too hard and the return on investment is unbelievable.
