5g reef

I was just cleaning the tank and I bumped the rocks a little and everything shifted. Oops.

I think this weekend I will take out some of the rocks and epoxy them together and finally epoxy the montipora in place. I might break it in two and glue part of it onto the plastic side of the tank.

I think I'm going to have to decide where I want all of the corals that I have and just go ahead and epoxy it all in place.

In fact, I am looking for some green and purple montipora capricornis or maybe even some Jedi mind trick to glue to the side of the tank.

I've been adding sea chem reef fusion two part every other day like it says on the bottle. I can tell that the algae that is forming on the glass is the hard green kind. It's just a matter of time until coralline starts to grow.

The tanks first water change is coming up this weekend as well. I'm going to change a gallon out about an hour or two after I do all that epoxy work.

Lol, no big deal, Joe. Thanks for the help and advice. I'm glad you are following along.

I'm just kinda liking this barebottom thing for now. It seems to be doing well for me so far.

By the way, this weekend after I epoxy all the rocks, I'll probably also cut up the GSP and glue it to the bottom of the tank as well.

I just got done rearranging the tank with black apoxie sculpt. The corals don't seem to mind the chemical. Everything is pasted down pretty well now and the structure is built up some. It is definitely taller. I might have room for more corals now too.

I'm going to wait for the apoxie sculpt to settle down and get filtered out before I post new pics of the tank.

The corals in the tank look ticked off at me. I might stop by the fish store on the way home tomorrow to get a gallon of saltwater.

I might need to look into changing out the filter media as well in the next couple of days. It's always a hard bounce back when you change things up so much. I'm sure it will all be fine.

Before I left home this morning I checked the tank. All the corals still seem mad at me. I did a 1g water change with saltwater I already had on hand. Hopefully that will help. I'm nervous to go home and see it.

I'm going by the store this afternoon to get two more gallons of saltwater, make sure I bring it up to temp and then do another water change.

When I get home, I will see how bad it is. I think because I used quite a bit of epoxy and I took stuff out, with such a low water volume, that I must have thrown something off. It's not as bad as I seem to make it though. Nothing has died, it's just kinda mad at me still.

Fingers crossed for you Seth.

You know that stuff you used isn't considered safe until it's cured right?

The msds has it labeled as a hazardous material.

Could be wrong, but I think the MSDS for most 2-part epoxy is about the same. Not "safe" until cured. You know it's funny though....my other hobby is model building, and Aves Apoxie Sculpt is a standard tool I use for scratchbuilding. I've never really had the nerve to use it in my tank, though. A quick search on RC shows a number of people who have, and like it. I'll just stick with my TLF Aquastick for now I think.

It's all in recovery now. The corals that I bought today, Mainly zoa's, are already open and doing fine.

The mushrooms still look like they puked up their guts, but they look better than yesterday. I did a two gallon water change today on a 4g tank. I'll do another gallon water change in the morning and add some seachem fuel and two part in the morning.

Pics to come when things perk up.

The montipora I have in my tank looks like the edges have died back some. I'll do another water change in the morning.

Everything else is looking OK. A couple of the mushrooms are having difficulty bouncing back but everything else seems fine.

Everything has bounced back! I'm excited.

I'm going to focus on filling the rest of the tank with different types of zoa's and try my hand at a couple of different types of monti caps.

It's going great.
