In my tank i have a 4 line wrass and a royal grama. they get along fine. this morning i added a little 6 line wrasse and the gramma doesn't like it and the 4 line picks on it. i doubt this is normal. what is going on?

I've experienced and heard of royal grammas being a little aggressive, but not 4-line wrasses. How big is your tank and how big are each of your fish? Did you rearrange your landscape before you added the new wrasse?
If either of the other fish start nipping at the newbie's fins, remove him immediately. Don't wait for them to stop, because they might not, and he'll end up dead.

i moved the rock around completely, then added him. since they started picking on him he has hidden and i can't find him. i have a 75 gallon tank with plenty of live rock. i'll try changing the rock around again if you think that will help.

oh forgot to mention, the new 6 line is about half the size of the 4 line. he's a cute little squirt and is becomming colorfull.

Yah he's my favorite fish.... i'm taking precautions to see that this doesn't happen anymore. once they are in the overflow box they seem to be done for....

I have a red hawaiian lobster (reef safe) in my tank and he's expensive! i mistakenly added him to my tank. Yesterday i bought a firefish & a tomatoe. The lobster started chasing the firefish:scared: And that was the last time i saw the firefish. The clown is doing fine when i saw him this morning.
I really like that firefish.

My Six/Four Line Wrasse can be aggressive to other wrasses. My 6 line wrasse picked on my percs and the wrasse was introduced lastly!
BEWARE OF WRASSE!

yah but they are so awesomely colored... and have the coolest attitude. though my percs have a funny personality and follow me. if i put a net in the water they swim right in almost instantly it's so hard to catch other fish cuz they won't stay out of the net. and when i am working in the tank they come up and nuzzle up against my hand. it's the wierdest thing. i hope i never loose them... i'd miss the little goofs.

i was foolish and didn't have them feed him before i bought him. i think that he wasn't in the best of shape anyways before i even purchased him. i have had nothing die in my tank ever. everything does great and grows like crazy. this just doesn't make sense.

My 6 line is awesome. Hes in my 75 with a tang, angel, tomato and greenbird.
He chases the greebird, but they DONT fight. He's a COOL fish!
6 lines are reef safe... so they shouldnt eat anything OR anybody!

GRRRRR so i figured i'd put another 6 line in since the last one ended up in the filter. got along good for a day or so then started picking on each other. figured, i'm only working till noon today so i'll come home and take care of them. i turned the lights off so they would stay asleep.... hoping anyways. came home and both of my wrasses are sitting on my chair dead. so my 2 favorite fish jumped tank. now my coral beauty is slowly swimming around looking in all the holes for my 4 line wrasse which it always followed around everywhere. it's as sad as i am. i think it was a combo of 2 different wrasses and a royal grama? any ideas? guess i'll have to get rid of the grama and just get a 6 line.

WOW Thats awful!
WHat is your set up? you dont have a top on that thing? How long has it been set up/cycled?
Just wondering?
Kim :notsure:

Sorry for your loss.
Wrasses are known to jump.I just purchased some 1/4" mesh black plastic mat and tiny plastic ties to cover my overflow..to keep my lettuce nudibranch from going into the overflow. Now that it came in the mail,he is staying in the tank..
Something you may consider doing to protect your overflow.I don't recommend this if you are going away on vacation though...it should be monitored for blockage.
