65g agressive stocking list.

Hey all, i recently inherited a beautiful 65 gallon tank with all the needed equipment. I'd like to turn it into an aggressive FOWLR tank. One thing i definatly want is some kind of an eel, as i find them very interesting. Other things ive been thinking of are puffers and frogfish. I'm almost certain i wouldn't want a trigger due to their aggresive nature. Again, im open to ideas so feel free to post what you think would work with an eel.

Good luck. There are good Triggers out there too, look into a Humu, or maybe a Pinktail, triggers are very entertaining fish. You also might look at a wrasse, I like the Lunare (inexpensive, beautiful, and hardy). Your tank is a bit small, so don't overstock...and keep in mind bigger puffers eat a lot, and create a lot of waste.

Fascinating fish...you can't have any fish small enough to fit in it's mouth (and it has a pretty big mouth). Really fun to put a live feeder shrimp in and watch the festivities, if you blink you might miss it. Not really sure about tank size for a Frogfish though, the one my friend had was in a 125.

Your not supposed to feed any freshwater fish or shrimp it will kill your fish quicker

Triggers can be good fish...Humu are known to snap and wipe a tank clean...Most trigger will outgrow a 65...Wouldnt try it...Puffers...I think a Valentini would work...Not sure though...Dont know to much about puffers...Frogfish require a stable system as far as I know...Species only kinda thing...Someone else will chime in on that I am sure..What kinda eel we talking here..?

If you are to get an eel you should probably go with a snowflake because most other eels with outgrow a 65.

Well snowflake eels are bad ass but eels are a little more work because they try and get out of your tank if theres even the littlest whole in the top of your tank (weahter its your back plastic strip or if your glass top/lid or canopy is open they will jump out and kill themselves all eels pretty much do it
but a toadfish i found mine at my fish store. i live in vegas though
do you have a fish store where you live like just fish not a ***** or petsmart or anything like that
if you do and they dont have it you can ask them to try and get one or you can look online on this site all ive seen is frogfish
but theres other websites like ww.saltwaterfishshop.com
and theres a couple other you might beqable to find them on

In my humble opinion, I don't think you would end up happy with this tank. The snowflake, which is probably the best fit for you, is not extremely active unless feeding and the frogfish is also generally inactive. So, with this tank, 95% of the time that you look at the tank you will see only rocks and no fish. If it were me I'd go with the snowflake, a dwarf lion, maybe a blue throat trigger, a dwarf angel (bicolor, coral beauty, flame) and a valentini puffer. If you had pretty good filtration and a decent skimmer, I think this combination would work well.
BTW, although I like his tank, I disagree with Trigger29's fish selection because an aggressive trigger will, at some point, kill a lion. I've seen it too many times.

Hmm well maybe i can do a blue throat triger, toadfish, snowflake eel and valentini (spelling?)
is that not overstocking for a 65g??? like some opinions.....and would their be any fights between the fishes?

no i dont think that would be overstocking at all thats just about perfect and a nice selection of fish i think the tank would look awesome
and yes to agree with crimzy sometimes triggers do attack lions ive never seen it ive heard of it a couple times on this site but if you want to play it safe you might not want to try it lol

You dont think thats overstocked...I didnt figure you would with your stocklist....
Eels - Nasty critters....Produce so much waste..Its best to do a water change 1-2 days after they are fed...Everytime they are fed....
Triggers - Might be okay for awhile..Hell the eel would be okay for a while.
Also nasty when it comes to terriorty, and feeding..
As fas as filtering for a tank with this stock list....It better be top notch and you would have to be on your toes with water changes..

Lion, Toadfish, Frogfish and other scorpion fish all prey on each other in the wild, it will eventually happen in your tank, who eats who just depends on which is bigger at the time. They are simply not compatible.
Frogfish, Anglers require a species only tank, these are not community fish.
As far as Lions and triggers IMO, there are a few that can be combined, in the proper tank (very important), triggers are territorial fish, and require space, the larger the trigger the larger the territory. It is not uncommon for a trigger to kill a lion, that blue-line trigger is a ticking time bomb and a matter of time before it kills your lion. Triggers are fast swimmers, messy eaters that produce a lot of waste, IMO not suitable for a 65g tank.

Uh yeah...good call on that...sort of...some feeder shrimp come right from the ocean, in fact our hosts at saltwaterfish.com will sell you feeder shrimp for like 10 for $8 or something.
