Hello starting a frag tank it's a regular old 10 gallon tank not sure yet how much rock will be coming from my main dislpay yet...i'll figure that out tomorrow but was wondering if and 80 watt PC set up is god enough to keep anything i want. The LFS has the same lights on a 16 gallon bow and it has a few acropora i belive. I want to keep everything that's nto a clam inside this tank. and it will be frags only.

I have seen people keep just about everything under 80 watts of PC in a 10 gallon, but I have the same fixture over my 16 gallon bow and want to upgrade to halides. I only have softies, zoas etc.. and everything is thriving except I have had some formerly gorgeous zoas go plain jane on me under the PC after being under halides. When are looking to set up this new tank?

this 10 gallon tank is only for frags. I'm starting a frag tank to let them grow while i'm waiting to set up a 150 reef. i want all kinds of corals hard soft etc. i've never set up such a small tank so i'm kinda iffy on alot of things still. i'm going to have a tiny little watchman gobbie and a fire shrimpnot sure how many crabs and snails i need. either way...i want to keep all corals but have no real interest in clams. When my 150 is set up..it will have halides

well if you look at the 80 watts you should be ok for most everything. I had 110 on my 10 gallon and it was growign the heck out of everything in there untill the heater blow up and the temp went through the roof. Ill be moving up to mass here soon maybe we can trade later on.

I was just looking aroud and am wondering if a 75 watt halide pendant would be better than the 20 inch 80 watt pc...what do you all think>
Will i be able to get enough light to the whole tank?
Is 75 halide better than 80 pc

Me too! I hope to have a nice collection ready for some swaps by then.
The concern with halides over a 10 gallon is the heat and possible bleaching.....but then most wouldn't use anything but so who knows.

that's why i was thinking the pendant would be good it's 75 watts the balast will be nowhere near the tank and i can choose the high i want it to be off the tank :)

no, sorry I wont have a chance for a few months. I am working on my 100 gal right now and as soon as I get it up and running I will start upgrading my nano. . 100 is pretty good for the light I paid like 98 + 25.00 shipping about 2 years ago the moon lights stoped working about a year after I got it but it turned out to just be a bad connection and was an easy fix.

i ended up finding a 96 watt 20 inch coralife for 100 dollars plus tax i'm pretty happy about it. The tank looks great. We also got a watchman goby and he's very small. He mostly hides when we come anywhere near the tank right now though.

Glad to here you got a light, and you are happy with it. the coralife 96 is IMO the most popular
light for a 10g.
keep us posted

where did you get it for $100, my LFS has it for $140, so i ended up buying the 28w version of it, and using my 15w florecent bulb with it.
