Yes depending on the size of the overflow.The size will determine how effective it will be for the use you plan for it.

This. I usually shoot for 5-10x turnover max to the sump. Seeing as how you're right around 200 gallons, 1000-2000gph fits well. Something like a 12 x 6" would be good IMO, allows for getting lots crud off the surface and two 1.5" bulkheads (1 as primary, 2nd as safety/backup) but not *too* big.
