here are a few pics of my tank. its been running for about 2 years now. filtration: ehiem 2217 and a japanese style sump fits on top of tank

I really love the way you arranged your rocks...

I know nothing of Japanese systems, but I have seen a few in pictures. It’s really interesting to see how people in other countries set up their tanks.

I bought the tank here in japan at the LFS, first thing I did was open the cabinet to see the filtration system. "nothing" What I thought were the lights was actually the filtration system.
It is actually a very efficient system.

Could you explain the system for me? o_O It looks really cool, but I don't understnad it by just looking at it. Also, your aquascape is beautiful!

The system it self is about 38 inches long, the pump is located on the right side of the tank. it sucks the water up into the 2 PVC pipes you see. the filter box is loaded with ehiem substrat biological media. there is about a 7 inch difference between the water line and the filter box, so it creates a really nice waterfall effect, the bubbles you see on the left side of the tank is caused by the water cascading back into the tank. It keeps the water very oxygenated.
