I got an established 90 gallon reef tank. I had two percula clowns that are doing very well for about the last year. They are about 3 inches each. I bought a Hippo Tang and a couple of other things from someone breaking their tank down. They only had a clown left and gave it to me. It is about 2 inches long and looks like a percula clown but is much lighter orange than the two I have now. Is this normal to see in the same species or maybe a different speicies? The picture is of the two that I already have. the big question is will three do OK in a 90 gallon?

Maybe and maybe not. They will probably fight fo a litte while, but they third one is smaller so they may accept it. It is reccomended that you put all clowns in at the same time or one that is much smaller. If you really want to give it a try and see what happens. Also keep in mind that 2 females will not get along. If this third clown was in a tank by itself or was the larger of the two I would advise against putting all 3 in the same tank.

i agree with this but why does SWF.com say it's okay to have more than one as they like to be in groups...it also says they get along fine with other clownfish....Is SWF misleading us?

I am going to try to put him/her in with the others. I have had him/her separated in a hangon refuge for about 6 days now. No one in the tank seems to be paying attention anymore.

While most clowns will not accept a third, ocellaris may or may not accept a third. The new addition will take a beating at first. But if it is a female, as stated, it willnot be accepted.

They are all swimming around together. They seems to be OK. But I will watch them closely for a while.

Good keep us posted. I have a friend who has done it successfully as well. If an attack were to happen it would most likely be immediate. Keep them fed well so they do not feel the need to compete for food.

Two days and no real problems. I seen my Japanese Swallowtail pick at him a little but I think it was because the clown swam into her hiding spot. But all three clowns are swimming around together most of the time and not picking at one another. :cheer:

I have 3 mated pair in my aquarium but it is a 200. The only time they fight is when one of the others goes in there space.
