A couple more questions from the obvious newbie!

About how much LS is needed for a 55 gallon tank measuring 48Lx13Deep?
I plan building a reef... How much LR is a good starting point? AND does all the rock in the tank need to be LR ? or can i build a base with regular rock, then put the LR on top of the regular rock?
What kind of RO system would be a good choice for a 55 gallon tank?

You can buy south down for less than $6 for 50# bag. 1 bag will prolly give you.......an inch +-. So that depends on how deep you want for sand. You can always "seed" it with LS from a friend or LFS.

1/2 base 1/2 LR is fine. 1 to 2 pounds per gallon is about right. You can add some now and some later but beware, adding later you will have to buy precured rock or cure it yourself before adding to the display.
What kind of RO system would be a good choice for a 55 gallon tank?
Any you can afford. My 60 GPD does about 11 GPD. Water pressure, temp, has alot to do with what it produces. If you got a new plastic trash can you can fill it right up and not worry about getting a big unit. The first time you fill the tank is when it's a PITA.
