A Couple O Questions

First, does anyone know what GPH a 135g reef
ready Oceanic overflow produces? Second, i was wondering for those of you out there that own one, what did you pay for your oceanic 135 rr? I paid like $685 after tax. Its only for the tank though, no lights or stand, or top for that matter. Not real worried about that though. My last question is, for just a FOWLR not that much light is needed other than what a standard aquarium light would produce correct? The Compacts and MH is for more of a reef tank if I got my facts straight. I intend on having 2 different colored lights.
Actually my final question, I went to a FS the other day and the guy was using MUD in his sump. He said it was an alternative to using a UV sterilizer? Any of you ever heard of this? It seemed to be working so I was just wondering. The guy seemed to know his stuff, and he also took me down and showed me his fitration system for the whole store, pretty sweet setup. Hope you guys have some input.

It depends if u have light loving creatures on the LR. If you do not want to keep them alive then u'll be fine, but if you want whatever hitchhikes on ur LR to stay alive then you might want to consider upgrading ur lights.

If i was you I would atleast run power compact on your tank so you can see the real color of the fish and at the same time it will benifit the live rock and what every you might have growing on it. Do you know what you want for fish in this tank?
About the mud I do not know to much about it but i can not see it taking the place of UV.

Well, I Intend on over filtering that way I can have a little bit of an increased fish load. I'm hoping to have:
Flame Angel
2 Percula Clowns
2 Hippo Tangs
Naso Tang
CLean Up Crew
and some other things, that is all I can think of for now. How much do you think a make-shift PC would cost to build? Also are they energy guzzlers?

Hello all. I am getting ready to start up a 55g long aquarium but I am not sure what I want to do with it. I would love a reef tank but dont know what kind of lighting would be necessary to sustain a tank that size. Also does anyone know if there is a benefit to using an aragonite substrate rather than coral? I would appreciate any input. <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

your lighting if you go with pc you can buy them ready to run i do not know about making up a light strip. You would probably want a 6' light strip with 4 96watt bulbs you would want 2 actinic and 2 daylight bulbs. prices have dropped since I bought mine but you are going to pay at the least $500 or more for you lighting. I know it sound like a lot but it is worth it I payed about $900 for my lighting system. As for energy cost I think my electric bill runs probaly $50 a month on my reef That is with the light the Filtration, protein skimmer, Uv steralizer, heaters, and also the wave maker with 4 power heads.
