Great pic man! I added my humu and snowflake the same day, 3/25/01, and he is still going. I got him around 22-24", and now he is pushing 28". Great guy, only problem is he likes do go off feed sometimes. Havn't had any escape problems with him either. Great addition to any tank. Bo

Yet again another good picture ! Looks cool, I as a matter of fact just got one and i'm thinking might take pictures. Hes only 7-8" but he still likes his goldfish whole and live :D I know I shouled give him some krill and silversides, I will try those next.

I really want to add one to my new reef set up, but I am too worried about him escaping, that happened last time... My dogs found him in the middle of the night.

Is a 55 gallon too small for an eel? Are all eels reef safe? What types of fish do they eat and do they fight or bother critters/stars?

It depends on the eel. The snowflake is one of the smallest morays so it would probably be fine in a 55. They will eat ANY fish that they can swallow. They are reef safe as long as you don't have anything small enough for him to eat and you don't mind him knocking your rock work down :)

Not true. Snowflakes are nearly 100% crustacean feeders. A small fish such as a 2" six line wrasse is much safer than a 3" blood shrimp. Technically, they are reef safe, but it is not advised. They will burrow in the sand, topple rock, etc. They won't harm sessile inverts, but crabs and shrimp beware! Bo
PS, a 55g would be perfect for a snowflake or similarly sized eel.

Amazing picture.
What is the green stuff at the bottom of the pic? is that "macro algae"? there is some on the rock too, i believe..
